Tameron McDougall EA
Tameron McDougall is the founder and principal of AmTax, a specialist US tax consultancy based in Melbourne. She began her US tax career in 2000 at Arthur Andersen, before continuing her training at EY in Australia. In 2003, she relocated to the UK, where she spent the next 13 years working in US tax advisory roles at PwC and respected mid-tier firms.
Before returning to Australia, Tameron was a partner at Tax Advisory Partnership in London, advising US citizens and green card holders on complex cross-border and international tax matters. Her work spanned compliance, planning, and representation, supporting clients with globally mobile lives, international investments, and multi-jurisdictional reporting obligations.
In March 2016, Tameron returned to Australia and founded AmTax with a clear purpose: to provide high-quality, specialist US tax advice that is practical, considered, and tailored to each client’s circumstances. With over 25 years of experience in US tax, she combines deep technical knowledge with calm, real-world judgment, helping clients navigate complexity with clarity and confidence.
Having lived and worked across Australia and the UK, Tameron brings a genuinely dual-country perspective to her work. She understands not only the US tax rules themselves, but how those rules intersect with real lives—careers, families, property decisions, retirement planning, and major life transitions. Clients value her ability to translate highly complex tax law into clear, plain-English advice.
Tameron is an IRS Enrolled Agent, admitted in 2004. Enrolled Agents are federally authorised US tax practitioners licensed directly by the Internal Revenue Service. This allows Tameron to advise on all aspects of US federal taxation and to represent clients before the IRS, including audits, disputes, and negotiations. The Enrolled Agent designation is the highest credential awarded by the IRS and reflects a high level of technical expertise and ongoing professional education.
Through her international career, Tameron has built an extensive and trusted network of US tax, legal, immigration, and investment professionals, both in Australia and internationally. This enables AmTax clients to access coordinated advice beyond tax compliance alone, particularly where cross-border planning and complex personal or financial transitions are involved.
Outside of work, Tameron enjoys fitness, long beach walks, snorkelling, travel, and time with her family. She also fosters cats through Tails of the Forgotten Paws, so there is often a rotating cast of feline personalities involved in day-to-day life. She relishes the opportunity to give a cat a second chance, and finds real joy in witnessing the quiet moment when a person and a cat choose each other. She values clarity, independence, and kindness—and brings those same principles (and patience) into her work with clients.
